India’s tech sector is poised to take a big leap forward with the launch of the world’s first all-in-one research institute, which will be headed by former Google executive and former Chief Scientist of Google DeepMind, Dr Rakesh Sinha.
This is the first time a research institute like this will be set up in India, as it aims to accelerate the adoption of the latest technologies and help companies to accelerate their innovations and scale up their capabilities, according to a statement from Xiaomi.
The institute will have a staff of over 50 people, including 30 from India, and will have three branches, said a Xiaomi spokesperson.
“Its mission is to foster the development of AI research and to accelerate India’s technological advancement,” the spokesperson added.
The institute is a key element in the company’s strategy to scale up its research and development capabilities.
“Xiaomi aims to become a world leader in AI and robotics in 2021,” it said.
