Marvell Technologies, the technology company that makes the Marvell Synapse and Synaptics digital cameras, announced today that it will become a full-fledged company.
The move follows a long-running effort by Marvell and its customers to get on board with the DigitalGlobe and other standards.
The company’s shares were down 1.6% in after-hours trading on Friday.
Marvell, which was founded in 1984, has more than 50 years of technology experience and makes cameras, sensors, networking devices, and other equipment for mobile devices.
The Synapse is the company’s first high-end digital camera, and its products include the Synaptic, Synapse Elite, and Synapse Plus cameras.
Marvel is expected to announce new products and new technologies for its products in the next few weeks.
Marvel also announced that it plans to start selling devices through its own network, with plans to offer these devices through retailers like Walmart and Target, as well as through Amazon.
The news follows an earlier announcement that the company was going to create a separate digital camera division, as part of its effort to expand into the emerging cloud computing market.
Marv’s acquisition of Synaptix comes as it moves to expand its digital camera business to include a more diverse range of digital camera models.
Marvin said it would continue to provide products for the high-quality, low-cost Nikon D750 and Nikon D600 digital cameras as well.
