The next big step in driverless cars will come in 2019, and that will bring us to a time when you will be able see your car, read its status, and make a turn on your own.
At the moment, a driverless car can only navigate around corners, but with its sensors and cameras, it will be capable of navigating your roadways in real time, even if it doesn’t see you.
The car will be more like a driver, and will be smarter than you.
“Driverless cars are going to have the ability to identify themselves from their surroundings, and to recognize their surroundings and respond accordingly,” says Steve Blumer, an associate professor of engineering at Cornell University and one of the researchers who is developing the next generation of driverless vehicles.
“That will be a big leap forward in the way that we live our lives.
We’re not just going to see these things in the lab, we’re going to get them into the real world.”
The next generation driverless technology won’t come from just one research group.
The big driver behind driverless driving is a group of people called the “internet of things.”
The internet of things is a vast network of devices connected to the internet, and it’s a huge problem, because every device in a house or office is connected to every other device in the house.
“I think that a big part of the problem is that we have these huge internet of thing devices that we’re building into our home, but we don’t really have the infrastructure to allow them to be integrated,” Blumer says.
“We’re building the infrastructure, but it’s not yet good enough to allow those things to actually be connected.
We don’t have a system for that, and the technology to make that happen is lacking.
So I think that this is a big opportunity for the internet of objects to get out there, to really start building the hardware infrastructure for a connected world.”
Blumer and other researchers have been working on a system that would enable the internet to connect a car to a smart home.
It would connect a smartphone to the car’s sensors and camera.
And it would let the car know if the phone is connected, so it can automatically pull the car up and charge it.
“It’s an extremely powerful thing, and I think it’s going to take a while to get there, because it’s been in development for so long,” Blumner says.
This system will work in a lot of ways that are similar to the way the internet has been connected to smartphones, such as using sensors and sensors-powered devices, but also like how the internet works with cameras.
“When you connect a sensor to a camera, the camera can detect that and say, ‘OK, I need this sensor to have this feature, so I need to charge the camera.
So let’s put it in charge,'” Blumer explains.
“And that will allow the camera to actually take that action, which will allow for that sensor to be connected to another device in this way, and then we can actually put that device in charge of that other device.”
“It will take a long time, but I think we’ll get there.”
Driverless cars, like other smart homes, will be connected through a set of sensors.
The sensors will be embedded into the walls, and they will collect data about the environment and give you notifications.
The same sensors can be used to make sure that the car is turning, for example.
“The same sensor can tell you when the car has started moving and when it’s stopped, and those two things are going a lot better together than they are separately,” Blume says.
There are a number of ways the internet could allow for this kind of connectivity to happen.
For one, Blumer envisions that the internet will be the main way in which these connected devices are used in real life.
“As we become more connected, we can get more and more devices, and in fact, this is where the real magic is going to happen,” Bluer says.
The internet could also be used for other things, such like medical diagnostics.
The first connected cars will be equipped with sensors that measure blood pressure, and some of these will be used as health monitors, so that you can make sure you’re taking your medicine properly.
The technology could also help prevent crashes.
The biggest concern for Blumer is the possibility that the connected cars could become a real threat to humans.
“This is going the way of the internet in a way, where we’re all getting our health information in the same place,” Blumber says.
But it’s worth noting that in most situations, we would not have to worry about a driver in our home making a mistake or getting a speeding ticket.
